cbx550 choke mechanism

Been Around the Block
Hi guys, so I have been putting my bike back together and have hit a snag! On the cbx carbs the choke is cable operated. The cable attaches to a arm which should lift four in number plunger type things? Sorry for my ignorance but carbs are not my area of expertise. :p
Anyway, when I operate the choke lever it is quite stiff and not a lot happens at the carb end. I don't want to be too heavy handed as the arm does'nt look that strong.
The carbs where sat on the bike for quite a while in my friends garage, they have been through an ultrasonic cleaner also.
Is there a way to free them up without removing the carbs again? as the airbox set up was a pig to put together and I don't want to do it again soon if I can help it. Also how much movement should I see at the carb side?
Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Here is the link to my build on here.

First thing I would check would be to see if the cable is the issue. Is the cable routed correctly? No kinks or sharp bends? Also, can you unhook it from the carbs to see if the cable moves smoothly. If it does try and move the arm with your hand, it should move fairly easily. If its not the cable it would probably be best to remove the carbs again. You'll need to remove the plungers to see what's up.

Thanks, the outer two are moving, it's just the inner two. I am going to try some penetrating oil to free them up first before removing them again. The cable is fine it's definitely the plungers.
If I remove the carbs is it fairly easy to remove the plunger mechanism? I can see they have what looks like a black plastic nut at the base of each one, do you undo that to remove them?
Thanks.

Yes, you have to undo the nut at the base to remove them, just take it easy with them as they are plastic. I haven't worked on CBX550 carbs but they are usually pretty accessible and easy to take off. Let us know how it goes and what you find out.

I'm thinking as I can see them I might have a go at undoing them with the carbs in place? Anyway thanks for your help. :)

So I managed to undo and remove the plastic nuts and the springs underneath. After a bit of wriggling the brass plungers came out. They had a small amount of corrosion on them so I cleaned them up and applied some oil and replaced them. They are all operating properly now so scare over! All I need now is a new choke cable as I think mine has stretched a bit. :)
Thanks for the advice HerrDeacon. ;)
