Central or lateral

After reading the the carbie 101 guide I'm about to do my own jets but I was wondering which part of the plug should we be looking at? The central or lateral electrode to use the tech names.

I haven't been through the step's for tuning the different rev ranges yet but I noticed after changing my exhaust and going for a bit of a run that the central was slightly crowned white.

Then I was told by someone that you should be looking at the lateral not the central. Can anyone clear a bit of my confusion?

You are kind of missing the forest because of the trees.

primarily you look at the insulator of the center electrode. The "lateral" and Center electrode provide additional information.

So color of the porcelain, condition of the electrodes.

Good read and going to come in handy. I'm going to change out my cv carb for a flat or smooth to run a stack on it so this will be good for reference. Hopefully my sparkie doesn't look like some of those pictures afterwoods.
