Centrifugal Oil Filter Cap

Been Around the Block
Hey so I have got a Honda CB200 75' and I was working on the engine trying to get the oil sludge cleaned up. I now have to get the oil filter cleaned out. But I can get the dang cap off. The manual says stick a 8mm bolt down the center and twist it out but the 8mm bolt doesn't fit and the 6mm bolt won't do the job because it's a 6mm bolt that hold the cap on in the first place. I am at a loss as to how to get it off. Any help would be appreciated. This is not the centrifugal oil filter with the cir-clip. There is no cir-clip. It seems like it is a slightly different design than the 360s at least as far as I could tell from pics online. Shoot me some ideas please.

I have owned 4 cb200's and a cb175 that all use an 8mm bolt. The threads are on the cap portion if I remember correctly and not really customizable or even really possible to retread or tap it... look in it with a flashlight to provide extra light and use a heavy duty pipe cleaner to clean inside to see if there is threads that look usable. An 8mm bolt should thread in to pop the cap off. There is also a special star washer locking the nut onto the base to take the whole thing out that you need to flatten out before attempting to loosen the nut. Oh, the nut is also castellated and needs a special socket to get the entire thing off. I have seen a lot of these butchered because people don't know what they're doing and just start with the ugliest tool they find and just shred the aluminum/metal to pieces. Take your time and do it right.

Thanks for the info I will definitely take my time. And good to know it is an 8mm bolt. Would you happen to know the thread pitch on it. I am assuming it is the standard 1.00 but I have tried two 8mm bolts with different pitches and neither go in. I bet the guy I bought the bike from cross-threaded it. :(

Hopefully not. If it's crossthreaded you'll have to get a new one most likely... I had a stator/generator puller from my magna and I used that.. If you have a bucket or jar of bolts like everyone should, you should have one in there. It doesn't take much and there is a thin o ring around the top part of the cap and it only takes a couple twists to pop it off.
