changing the angle of a tank?

How exactly do you go about changing the angle a tank sits at? Does this require frame modification, or do you just shim or modify the tank? I ask because I am currently cafeing a yamaha sr125 and the tank sits fairly steep as standard.

Thanks,

Jordan

You can add a spacer under the back of the tank, that the mounting bolt runs through. It'll lift it up, however much you want to.

If it looks like this:

...and you want it to look like this:

...or this...

...then you're likely dealing with a different tank altogether and possibly some frame mods - would have to see what the SR125 frame looks like without the tank, seat or side covers.

That's a bit more extreme than I was thinking. Scratch my idea. I'very lifted them and inch or two my way.

Thank you for the advice. That's pretty much what I thought I would have to do, just thought I'd make sure on here

Well, there was another post while I was replying.....

What sort of modification the the frame are we talking?

Well like I say, I have no idea what the bike looks like. Do you have a project thread started with pics of your actual bike? You'll get more specific answers to more specific questions.

I don't. I'd most likely end up forgetting about it or something. Here's a pic I found of a sr125 without a tank/seat. Is this of any help?

You have to change the tank and you better be really good friends with a welder.

I have an SR250 with a Suzuki GT380 tank on it. Welded a new tab on the back and some new pockets up front.

I can manage a half decent weld, so that shouldn't be an issue. Thank you everyone

Something to think about though might be where the petcock is. Raising the rear might make you hit "empty/reserve" sooner if the drain/petcock isnt at the lowest part of the tank. Probably have to be an extreme angle though to be of concern, i guess.

Also don't forget you can change the angle of the frame by lowering the front 35mm internally with valved spacers. Which you should do anyway.

Really changes the handling of the bike for the better.

I wouldn't even know where to purchase 'valved spacers'

I am very knew to all this and any help is greatly appreciated

Copper tubing cut 35mm long and drill a couple holes in them. You can't buy anything for the SR250. It's a "fab it" kind of bike.

Take it slow. I forget - does the bike run well? Thats step one of course.

But def use a different tank and find some pics of bikes you like as a starting point. We can help ID the tanks they've used and point out good options.

And they have to clear the frame. I know for sure the Suzuki GT380 tank fits with a little banging of the ball peen.

See, the SR has a bit of a hump to overcome.

Does it run well? It idles, then you have to increase the throttle slowly or it cuts out. I'm pretty sure it's a carb issue, partly because there's a hole in the side of the carb where the PO looks to have hammered a flat head screwdriver through the side of it
