Changing top and bottom yoke?

Been thinking about using a top and bottom from another bike as I'm moving over to clip ons on my xv750.

After a lot of thought my conclusion is as follows:

You can use any as long as the distance from clamp to clamp is the same and as long as any change in offset does not cause the wheel to be too close to the engine and hit it.

Oh, and as long as the hole for the spindle is the right size of course :)

All bearings and spindle currently on bike would be used of course.

Any reason anyone can think of why this, in theory, is wrong?
