First Test of the Hitachi Action cam, currently a bargain £49.99 from Argos.

Not the best test in the world as it was dark & damp but first impressions are good. Sound might be a bit iffy
Second impression is that it might well be getting returned. Doing some testing at home and after running for about 50 minutes recording in 1080p it shut down. Picked it up and it was rather warm. Letting it cool down and test again
Having rechecked it was actually a flat battery. Recharged & retested and left running overnight on a full charge at 720p abn it managed about 1h30 of recording so I think I;m happy Will do another full recharge & repeat at 1080.
NB have tried and it can't be externally powered whilst recording (which I can with the GoPro)
Thought this was worth a punt at the price. Takes the same batteries as my Samsung camera (SLB-10A) so I may get a few cheap ebay spares. Already have an external charger that can be powered from the bike
It's quite not as featured/intuitive as the GoPro Hero 3(which I also have) but then you wouldn't expect that . EG you cant select how it splits the file up it just records to about 3.8Gb (which is a Fat file sze limitation) then starts a new file
Having said that it does have an auto power off if left idle sho shuts down after 3 or 5 minutes if not being used which is something the GoPro doesn't.
Uses a 3 prong adaptor but would be easy to adapt to a GoPro or Ram mount
One nice little touch about the case is that it has a lanyard hole so you can add a tether line to the case.
The manual suggests it wil only work with an up to 32gb card, I can confirm it will work with a 64gb micro SD in an aSD adaptor
A little bit of research shows the Hitachi is is a rebranded for Argos PQI Aircam which means you can fir a PQI Aircard for WiFi transfer of pics although not controls. Downside is that will eat battery life
