Chevy HEI module timing Gs300L

Snow, the other white drug.
So I figured out the igniter box on the Suzuki decided to crap out. No spark on the left side. Instead of searching for a replacement and paying top dollar I went the cheap (and so far better) route. I read about people replacing these boxes with GM Hei ignition modules used in the older cars and trucks. So I did some research and went to the junkyard and pulled two 7 pin Modules off of a couple old Cadillacs with the 4.5L V8. Most people use the 4 pins but the 7 pins work the same and give me a signal wire for a tach! And after an hour and a half of staring at three different wiring diagrams I got them wired up. And viola! Pretty blue sparks from both sides. I knew going into this I would have to adjust the timing somewhat because the Hei mods have no timing adjustments whatsoever and the igniter was what controlled all that. Now MikeLawless on this forum has fixed this on a Gs300 by slotting the holes on the pickup plate and rotating it. The Suzuki manual I have says timing spec is 15* BTDC below 1650rpm and 40* BTDC above 4500rpm. Mike's write up said his setup worked best at 28* BTDC for all rpm ranges. But admittedly I have never had to mess with timing on a bike before so I'm somewhat lost with how to proceed from here. Right now the bike starts up better then it ever has but idles rough and the throttle makes no difference in how it runs. Thanks for any help.
