Welp, i need some help again. I found a really nice head light at a local junk yard and I'm looking for tips and suggestions on how to convert it to work on my bike. Here are a couple pics of what its looks like.
It has a sealed glass backing, I'm guessing trying to use this bulb is going to be out of the question. Here are some more pics from inside.
I only spent $10 on it so I won't feel bad if I can use it, but I wanted to ask around to see if anyone had any tips or ideas on how to get this thing to work.
Definitely a very classy headlight bucket, looks almost porcelain. Does the headlight not light up? If it does, use it. If not, then just measure the dimensions and go buy one on ebay.
One of my bikes has a headlight that started out as an old police spotlight (fully adjustable and all, pretty cool for looking into the turns). When I got it the bulb was burned out and I didn't hold any hope finding another, so I just ordered a headlight from an old kz305. It was a little sloppy inside the bucket but I just wrapped some electrical tape around the circumference... now it stays tight. You may need to fab up a bracket from somewhere, I just root through my junk pile and then grind/drill/weld as necessary.
Lots of motorcycle headlights are sealed beams - what happens when you connect that thing to a 12v battery? Some of this depends on how 'legal' you need to be. Do you need hi/lo beams? Does it have to be a DOT light?
Measure the lens size and you'll be able to find a proper motorcycle headlight that will snap right in and connect to your wiring no problem. Check out Dime City Cycles for the light.
Basically you've got a Bates style light there with a bottom mount - so go ahead and fab up what you need to mount the light to your bike - if this light doesn't work out perfectly I know you can buy a brand new one that will mount the same way.

When I tried testing the original headlight nothing happened. Its burned out. I guess I dont know what "legal" to "illegal" is. I live in Colorado, so we have a lot of relaxed laws and I've never been bother while on my bikes. I guess I don't know if I need to have a high low beam. It seems like its hard to find a 12v 25/35w halogen bulb, so I might just have to have a 35/35w bulb.
Does anyone have a link to someone thats done and halogen conversion for a CB350 on this forum?
Sorry, I just read over this until now. So what are some good options then, since I shouldn't be using an H4 light? Just try to go back to a 12v 25/35w bulb?
