CL 350 cheap(er) exhaust setups

So I am currently trying to rebuild my CL and have gotten it running and all but the thing is way, way, loud. Neighbors have been hating me for the last few days. I bought some of those 12" short mufflers just to see, not much help. I was looking at buying another baffle to just go down the pipe, not really sure what length and just keep the short mufflers on. Would this work? Or is there a better, cheaper option that is not stock and not $300?

Found some Vance and Hines "quiet" baffles made to go in Harleys but have the same pipe diameter and was also wondering if any has tried that out. Thanks

Are the shorties baffled at all? Do they have any packing? I had a cheap emgo on one of my bikes for a while and it had like 4 square inches of fiberglass wrapped on the baffles. I repacked the muffler with some fresh fiberglass and it helped a good bit. Also, you can add sink strainers to the baffles to increase backpressure (which you likely need) and it'll also help to quiet it down after a repack.

Yea they do have baffles in them but im sure its pretty lack luster in there. Lol and yea didnt think about using something like that maybe I will try that out this weekend. thanks man

I'm assuming you are running the scrambler pipes with no stock muffler.
I put a set of Harley mufflers on my CB. I believe they were 20"(No longer have this bike). Picked them up at a swap meet for $30. I see Harley mufflers for sale on craigslist all the time, cheap.
They didn't sound bad at all.

So its not pretty but this is what I came up with, cut off pieces of the brackets to bolt the mufflers on, them jammed then into place, drilled a hole, and high temp joint soldered them together, only because I cannot weld. Hopefully this works out ;D
*also repacked the mufflers

I am working on the exact same issue with my 175. I welded in washers and started slowly increasing the diameter of the hole. It took a little trial and error to get the desired effect but with a little patience, and a uni-bit, you'll get there. Also, get some aftermarket muffler packing.

Okay so I repacked it, and put in some home made baffles, but now all it does is idle around 2000 with the choke off, and backfire. So, I have checked the timing and the valves were both in order, now that I got this running from OK to worse, I am going to leave it alone for the night and try to brain storm what could be happening. I just realized in the carbs now are a 70 primary and 72 secondary, and the stock is 70 and 105, which is obviously far off. Could this be causing the excessive rich condition which is causing the poor running? But that does not make sense because it was running okay earlier before I repacked the exhaust.
