CL 350 Tires

Looking at a 1972 CL350 with under 9K in very nice condition but has been sitting for 10yrs. Day dreaming about doing a cafe. Cosmetically the bike is beautiful. Maintenance wise it needs everything gone through including tires. Wanted to know if anyone could give me info on the widest tire that can safely be installed on the rear stock rim? Also would welcome opinions and info on brands and style for front and rear. I don't want anything with too hard a composite. Considering a straight ribbed retro front tire.

This has only been covered about several thousand times.
3.50" or 90mm is 'stock' size.
You could fit a 100/90 or 100/80 but thats slightly bigger than recommended safe max.
Use search and do some reading

crazy,

Did some searching but didn't find much other than opinions on whether or not as to safety and performance or lack there of. The few I did find didn't elaborate on how many or what mods had been done additionally (different swing arm, rim, etc.). Seems that roadrider, bridgestone, or dunlop are the tires of choice. Like the idea of duel compounds, but may be overkill for a bike of this type. Thanks for the input. Like the wider look but not looking to go crazy. Maybe just one notch bigger.

Can you tell me if a 18" or 19" front wheel is more desirable and the reasoning?

If youre building a "cafe" bike...

Stick with 18s front and back, and stock tire sizes. Theres no real gain in increasing the tire size. Its not a drag bike with 100+hp. Your handeling will be off if you put a big fat tire on the back and leave a skinny up front. ever see the real race bikes that are built from 350s? SKINNY tires.
