CL350 front end vs CB350 frontend

I have two CL350s One has a disc cb forks. One has the original Cl forks.

The CL wheels are in good shape but are drum. The CB looks like crap but is disk. I wouls need to relace the cb hubs into new wheels to use them.

Now I have read that the disc is not much better than the drum. But what about the 19" wheel vs. the 18" wheel? I think the 18" in theory should be a bit more responsive, but enough to justify new wheels for the CB front end?

???

C'mon guys, all I am really asking is if handling would suffer with the 19" vs the 18". Anybody have any experience.

And I have to throw a little more into the mix. I intend to slide the forks up 1" and get lower shocks for the back. Would this shorten the trail back up and improve handling?

I am lowering for my wife's short stature. She could deal with not lowering but an inch lower sure would help.

Don't think there will be a noticeable difference between 18 and 19 inch rims but tire choices may be limited depending on which way you go. BTW, disc braked CB450s have 19" front wheels. Braking power on the disc is marginally better than the drum.

I installed a cl350 19" rim w drum on my 76 360. I am delighted w the drum brake...I have never ridden in rain. wet might make a huge difference in stopping power. Also check to see if the tires you want come in 19" Not a lot do. You will have a huge 18" tire selection.

Drum actually works better than the disc if it's wet.
The stainless steel rotors are pretty crap until they warm up
Ferodo pads help, (some EBC organic work real well, they wear out real fast though, 3~4,000miles)
Pad choice is pretty limited nowadays though (although pad is common across range/engine sizes)
Drilling discs help's a bit, but really, the disc needs changing to something with better friction (back in the day there were cast iron rotor conversions)
Even I can't make 70's Honda disc's work well, when it rains, just go a LOT slower or keep finger on brake so it drags and stays 'dry' (ish)

Well then, all you need to do is ....do it. The morning after I finished installing my stretched swingarm, I was riding up to our local restaurant for coffee. about 4:30 am. I was rounding a small hill w curve, doing about 60 mph. thinking to myself "Motorcycle headlights really suck" all of a sudden there was a black shadow and BAM I was airborn for about 15 feet. I had nailed a big raccoon as he was walking across the road. The bike was rock steady, no wiggle no shake, just straight. I cant say that for myself. I could "feel" my eyes were as big as dinner plates. and my whole body was stiff as a board...white knuckles. The rest of the ride was 35 mph. So, I LOVE my 19" front tire.

Well I priced re-chroming the 18" wheels and that aint happening.

So 19" it is.

I may get those 18" powdercoated for my second build.

I like the drum cause it dont leak oil on the floor. my buddy w a 83 nighthawk 550 his caliper wouldnt return all the way and he found it cause he could smell the pad burning up. after he tore the whole brake system down he found a tiny speck of dirt in the hole on the hadlebar resivior and then had to get new pads. refill and bleed the system...pain in the butt

HA....LOL, I was wondering how long it would take before somebody would file a complaint!!! I know right...If I sit and stare at them for more than 15 seconds without blinking...When I finally do come around, 35 minutes have past, I have a headache, I've forgotten about motorcycles and I jump on the old lady!!!!
But really, Ive had em for like a month give or take...If you really find them annoying...I can remove them. I thought it might be a little too distracting for some guys. While trying to enjoy someones post.
Im surprised theyve lasted this long without someone sending hate mail.
