just bought a $200 1971 CL350....to do a cafe/tracker
I read somewhere else that riders of these bikes prefer to use 100/90-19" front and 110/90-18" rear
...sorry to contradict any of the great info posters have stated about sticking with slightly narrower(and more stock sized) tires for better performance and general ease of fitment
- however, the big problem with using 90mm wide tires that I'm finding is availably, there just aren't many to chose from...even locating 100mm wide tires seems troublesome...where sizes for modern tires mostly appear to range from 110mm/120mm and larger
anyway, I'm desperately looking for any/all tire options
...I'm guessing these might work:
Shinko 712 http://www.bikebandit.com/shinko-712-motorcycle-tire
100/90-19" front and 110/90-18" back
- possibly a 120/90-18" back tire, or is that too much for the rear rim?
here is an another example of tires that size:
Avon AM18 Track http://www.bikebandit.com/avon-am18-race-motorcycle-tire
...so that must be suitable "performance" sizing to have a 100mm front with a 120mm rear(as that is the sizing they are selling)
one way I would kinda like to go is to use a "dual sport" tire with a more aggressive tread pattern...and i even saw on this forum where someone used these tires
Shinko 705 http://www.bikebandit.com/shinko-705-motorcycle-tire
...I'll have to ask that user if the final mounted width of those tires(the 110/90-19") is 4" or under to fit a CL/CB 350 http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=19763.220
please share your opinions on my thoughts...any help is appreciated
Check with the manufacturer of the tire. They almost always list the rim sizes that a given tire will properly fit.
Without checking for certain, I would think you're fine with a 120/90 18" on the rear though... that's only up 9mm on the profile and 10mm on the width.
looking for something that I can use on gravel roads
I tried my Virago and it didn't feel good at all, but still made the 10miles on gravel I had to do to get to a buddys house....tied my GSXR750, only for about a 1/4 mile before I carefully turned back

my Virago has a 100/90-19" front, and my GSXR750 has a 120/70-17" front...so kinda 'eye-balling' what something in-between those two sizes might be like for the rear of the CL350...120mm is pretty wide
