CL350 Tank Options

Trying to explore different tanks for my CL350, does anybody know if any other tanks would fit. I saw a thread where someone had put a CX500 tank on a CL350 & it actually looked quite nice. Not sure how much work had to be done to make it fit though.

Most any tank other than a CB350 tank will require modifications / grinding, and such. Some are just easier than others.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your only options for off-the-shelf tanks are any year cb350 (not cb350/4) or any year cl350. I've been thinking about alternative tanks for my 71 cl350 for a while and there really isn't anything that will sit on the frame nicely without modification. But that's probably not why you joined a site like DTT, is it now? Find a tank you like the look of and MAKE IT FIT!

The biggest issue is getting the underside channel of the tank around the frame backbone and getting the front and rear mount to line up. Also, keep in min that you may encounter new problems with petcocks and fuel lines, etc. I just picked up an XS750 tank to fab up to my bike. The underside will need to be widened and the frame mounts moved, but I like it enough to try and put the work in. Here's a crappy photo of it (and my now ungodly large stock seat) resting on the frame.

i just got in the mail a CL450 tank , the front mounts fit great, but you have to widen the back part of the inner tunnel a bit

Burner, i love those tanks! lots of people use them for xs650 café projects but i've never seen one on a 350!

Troy, ya, make it fit... you should see what i had to do... pounded out the bottom to stretch it over the frame, and then kinda opened up the whole thing at the front to fit over the stock mounting donuts... there was a guy who got an RD tank onto his 350 that did WAY more work even than me... and there's guys who have split tanks etc... to quote starsky (or was it hutch?) doit... doit...
