I noticed that during teardown, their size and orientation is specific. I appreciate the advice.
you can't get them wrong, it is impossible, don't worry about it

May as well ask while we're on the topic. I noticed when separating the top of the engine from the bottom that the gears slide around on the shaft is the bottom of the crankcase when the gear shift forks are not in there. Do I need to ensure that they are in a certain orientation before replacing the top of the crankcase?

Also, maybe the most glaring question of all, haha... Are you confident that this broken gear shift fork is the cause of the shifting issue?

Thanks agin

when you re assemble it must be with the engine upside down the shafts are all held in place that way then just drop the bottom case down on
you will want to check foe excessive wear in the shift fork grooves as well as look for rounded engagement dogs
