Cl360 fork conversion

Been Around the Block
Hey everybody
Looking for info on fork conversions possibly for my cl360 cafe build

I'm looking to get a better thicker shock
I just don't feel great about the size of the originals coupled with the cast lower triple for 74'
I'm planning on an aluminum upper and looking into machining a new lower

But also seen a lot of conversions online
But all have been upgrading to disk front
I would like to keep the drum front of possible for the look and style
Anyone out there have any ideas?
I don't want to go too big on diameter
But upgrade for safety

without measuring the front axle size I'm not sure the wheel will drop into any other front ends, but all honda's of that era use the same size steering stem, therefor any other honda larger front end will fit into your neck....biggest issue is if you want to keep the drum front you won't be able to use any of the larger front ends as they won't have all the necessary mounting points in the lower legs for the drum hardware/braces/brackets/etc. Maybe a complete 4LS front end would be able to be fit, but those are a lot of money.

SOHC CB750 is an easy swap, but the stem is 5/8" longer than the 360. It's also an easy conversion for a disc brake.

I know with custom triples, a cl drum axle is the same diameter as cb550 forks. Did one on a hardly ableson with custom triples.

Are cb550. Forks thicker tubes
Because I'm thinking just billet triples with increase strength and keeping stock forks will allow drum setup

However if I can use the drum hub on 550 forks with custom triple and the diameter of the tubes is bigger??? I'd like that

Also as deviant suggested I'm not totally opposed to disk front
Figure it as a last option but really my concern was the notoriously weak triples

if I'm not mistaken, the forum sponsor "bullet motorcycles" sells billet cb/cl360 triples.....

If you can find a 73-74 or so CB450 DOHC lower tree it will bolt on to the 360 frame. The stem is the correct length and it will fit the 750 fork. A CB450, CB 750 (71-76) and the CB500/550 top tree will work with it. I also think you can do this with a 500/550 lower tree, but I'm not absolutely 100% sure.

Ok after an hour or so of research I'm going to use cl450 forks which retained the drum brake for that model and cb450 dohc lower and a billet top
All are 35mm upgrade from 33mm

I'm almost positive the axel are the same as whelk so my cl360 front hub should bolt up if not I will just upgrade to cl450 hub

35 mm i can set you up with aluminum top bottom clamp set they are betor and will look great polished up
i can compare them to 450 clamps width and offset i think they have less off set which would slow down the steering feel and response and could probably be minimized by raising the rear just a bit
some accurate measuring can tell what is going on
as far as changing rake if you raise or lower either end you can maintain the same rake by doing both ends same amount
any change in trail will be tiny this way
whatever you do lowering is never a good idea except maybe converting an mx bike for steet use
