Cl450 Exhaust Back Pressure?

Hey guys I have a 71 CL450 and the pipes are in pretty good condition except the mufflers, which are extremely rusty and one has a good size hole in it. I wanted to just chop them off and just have a straight pipe, but im not sure if it needs the back pressure. And if so then what do I need to do? :-\

If you take the mufflers off then you will run loud and lean until you put a hole in one of your pistons, at which point your motorcycle will be very quiet indeed.

Also, here's the best resource I've found to explain what "back pressure" really means:

Alright thanks makes sense, so what should I do then? Because the mufflers look god awful atm and are really loud due to the tennis ball size hole.

I would humbly suggest that you put new mufflers on it

Rich... You're something special, ya know that?

That's what my bus driver says too!

And too bad and two months late. I just sold a pair f CL450 pipes to a guy who wanted to convert them for a 350. Were in good shape only lil pitted. New ones list for 930 pound from England. 1500 local dollars at least. not selling my new ones yet.
