Its my attempt at starting a small hobby/ buisness in my spare time (The odd evening and every other weekend...)

So, because I'm not smart enough to make a real web page, I made a Facebook one!

I don't have alot on it right now, but in time I will. I'm still trying to get the pictures of some wheels I refinished for a guys Honda Civic.

So check it out, tell me what you think and go ahead and join if you've nothing better to do!

Thanks!

Im the last guy that doesnt have facebook so i dont know how to look but i wish you luck man

Hey Rat,

that's how I started 45 years ago - hobby gone mad = business.

That was all word of mouth then - no Facebook !

Anyway, why not have a go at doing a website? - they really are simple with various programmes around to make it literally point and click. If I can do it [ self confessed computer dummy ] then anyone can!

Best of luck with your endeavour

Thanks guys!

I had an apiphany this summer. I bought a boat for $250 (the one in with the sandwedge), painted the inside, cut new plywood seats, wrapped and padded them (Total parts was about $75) and sold for $600!. If I could keep that up I can dig myself out of debt and the skys the limit!

The sandwedge, $50+ IIRC.

That is a french loaf, like the ones that are great for garlic bread. I started at one end of the deli and worked my down and up the cheese side.

Thanks Beach' means alot! I think I will give this a swing first and see what happens. If it takes off... Well, I'll just have to waite for that. Untill then I have a stady job for the next 20 years with a pention at the end (43).

I have an update with some canoes for some time today if all goes well.

Web sites are not hard if you use simple tools. For years we created web sites with Front Page. It's not the best tool for pro level sites, but it generates the HTML code and it's not hard to work out how the correct or tweak HTML.

Forget flash an all the fancy software.

The simplest way is to find an ISP that includes a web building package. They are all template driven content management tools so it's easy for an end user to create content and they take care of generating all the code. Google is also a possibility, but I hate to give them any more advertising revenue than they already have. For Google, it's all about ads for which they charge someone and they tend to clutter up your web site with ads for competing services and so on.

Or you can just start a blog at a place like blogspot for free. Good luck with the hobby/business. I've been on that path the past few years too and the work I do in my garage helps fund my personal projects.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk, bitches.

good luck man i started workign on my own stuff... then took on buddies stuff... my dad walked in my garage one day and said "you have over 100G in bikes in here... better get some busn insurance" so i found out you can not get insurance without a busn liscense... got the C class... 5 years later we now have moved from a garage, to small shop, to the larger shop we are now in and run 6 days a week with 4 employees... to think most of this growth as come since i have been a member on here... keep at it man if you lvoe it... it will grow

Good luck with the endeavour. I too am trying to set myself up in the same manner while I work toward my 20 year retirement. You serving in the military?

Yes, RCAF.

Yourself?

I may be poping out a few bike seats for a 360 and another ride here soon enough. One with rivets, one welded.

Stay tuned!

I'm doing the simple stuff for my business right now to fund my own bikes haha. (carb cleaning at cheap prices so people can ride more!!!) Congrats on you starting your business too. You do great work sir. Look into Word Press, there's some books on it and it's relatively easy to do things on if you know a bit about computers. I'm in the process of making mine right now (going very slow because I've had a few good projects in here lately) www.motorbikebrunos.com

Also, maybe start up a twitter account and see if that helps. I wish you luck in your business.

guys one thing to bear in mind... INSURANCE... you need it to run a busn... exp if you are fixing adn working on bikes as a listed shop. if not and something goes wrong on a bike you wrenched you are responsible. just bear that in mind... was one of the first things i set up with my busn!

Right now, I dont plan on getting in to the safety critical stuff like brakes, engine work and etc. Mostly cosmetic and less then whole bike builds.

I like the idea of making things that guys can finish my customising them selves. ex, an alloy seat that can be trimmed to the owners taste if desired.

I have a canoe, home bar to finish, a truck tranny swap, 02 Impala to get on the road for winter, shed to move and etc, But all that can be dropped for a deposit on some work easy!

I dont want to be an Official Shop yet, I may go regrester a name just to keep safe for the future tho.

I hear ya, I don't plan on cutting frames or pulling apart engines any time soon either, I like how you are starting out. Maybe I'll leave the alloy seats and stuff to you and send the people I know your way ;D

Thanks!

I've got some new pictures up of a canoe I'm repairing. It's spine was worn down from being dragged along the ground and I'm showing how to repair it. From start to finish, short of the pictures I couldn't take because I was glassing in the wood supports. Have a look!

So, I had two chairs in my front yard this summer I got for free. With some left over plywood, foam and spare seat covers...
