So, I have a dohc honda cb750 that i'm cleaning the valves and head on. Is it alright to use green scotch brite pads to clean the carbon build up or will it take the stellite coating off?
I doubt the valves have any coating. Don't get aggressive and use a slightly worn pad not fresh new ones, a plastic brush and some solvent can break it down also.
Scotch brite should be fine, I used them on my GL head to remove old gasket residue and on my civic head to do the same. you can dip them in solvent to help speed up the removal.
