Clip on headlight bracket

Okay so i ran into an unfortunate situation today with my forks on my 74 cb550...I took off the stock head light brackets and underneath them the forks were pitted so bad from rust so that I will now have to bondo and sand them a bunch till their smooth (if I go with the clip on headlight brackets)...so I have two questions

1.) are there any headlight brackets that slip on over the forks like the stock ones but aren't near as big and bulky (to mask the damage)??

2.) if I choose to go with the clip on kind is there any way I can keep the boots on the fork (I like the look)??

I had two pieces of steel tubing 1mm bigger than the fork diameter cut the length of the forks between the triple tree minus the length of the clip-ons. Then I drilled a small hole in the back. I had them powder coated to match the frame color, slid them over the forks, attached the clip-ons above the sleeves, used a set screw in the hole I drilled in the back to keep them in place and used the clip-on headlight brackets like normal.
