clip ons on top of triple tree?

i wanna use clip ons so that i can lower the front forks up through the triple trees further than possible with regular bars on, on my xs650, but if having the bars too far down is too uncomfortable, is there any problem attaching them to the top of the fork tubes that are sticking out of the top of the triple trees? or is there a risk of accidentally ripping them off when i gun it too hard, or something? it also saves me from having to get new headlight brackets right away, as well, haha

thanks for any help you guys can offer

If you put your clip-ons above the triple clamp the only issue you will have is getting them to fit. The bosses for the stock handle bar mounts are very close to the fork tubes and will have to be shaved a bit to allow the clip on to fit - especially if you have beefier alloy clip-ons.

On the XS650 the stock handlebar mounts can be removed from the triple tree altogether. You should be OK. So long as the clipons are on properly, they shouldn't move once clamped down.

Mine are above the tree.

No problems whatsoever in doing this, well... as long as you want to lower your bike.
