im thinking of getting some clip ons sooner or later, except i want to run mid controls. yeah i know its probably not going to be comfortable, but i just dont like rear sets at all. does anyone have experience with this?
although i dont have experience with this yet, i will in a couple days. i'm building up my 450 on a budget, so i just ordered some adjustable Tarozzi low rise clip-ons from DCC. And i'll order my rearsets in a month or so.
These Tarozzi's should have enough adaptability so you can tweak your stance with them enough to make up for using mid controls. You could also go with the Tarozzi high rise (i think airtech sells them). They come up and off the clips even higher.
Build the bike according to your taste, budget and with a mind to safety and you'll be fine. These things evolve over time, and it's easy to swap out back to a more comfortable setup whenever you want.
I'm running Tarozzi Low Rise clip ons with mids. I am waiting for some rearsets to be finished for the cb360 but as of right now the set up is pretty comfy for a 6' tall guy!
I rode my KZ with clubmans and the stock mid-controls for years, with many all-day riding days and it was very comfortable. It may depend on your size and the bike's size, but it can be setup to work fine.
I run clip-ons with stock controls and I like it a lot. I'm tucked in, not sitting on my manhood, and easier on my arms as I'm not doing a pushup while a ride. The biggest bonus is getting my ass of the seat over bumps. 1" closed cell foam adds nothing to comfort. lol
I rocked clubmans with stock controlls and it was pretty uncomfortable for me 6' on my CB550. However, Mothgils runs the same bike and he's about 6'1 and its fine for him. I would just throw on your clipons on and see how it feels. Worst case its not comfortable but still rideable, then you just spend the money on the rears when you get it if you need them
I originally had mid controls and clubmans as well. I felt uncomfortable. It felt like my thighs were pressing on my gut too much. Like i was folded over too far. I'm not super fat, but I'm not small either.
I put rearsets on and it fixed this problem but then there was too much weight on my wrists and my hands would start falling asleep after riding for more than 30 minutes.
On my rebuild, I'm going with mid controls and drag bars.
I'm never getting rear sets, used to race motocross sonit just looks and feels stupid to me.
I'll probably go ahead and order some clip ons. When I've got the bike sorted I'll put photos up in my build. Cheers
