I'm selling my 82 nitehawk that I've redone to a kid who wants to change things up.he wants clipons for that look,I guess.questions is what size to get.the fork tube is 37mm BUT it goes thru the headlite mounting bracket. so do I try to cut out the braket or look for clipons to fit over it. he would like the forks lowered a little but I hear this bike wont like that.he's new to riding.ahy ideas?
thanx Mike

Cant mount the clipons with the stock headlamp ears and it's a bad idea anyways. put some low superbike bars on it and tell the kid once he learns to ride some you will help modify it then. after he rides it with correct bars and then adds clipons he will understand why you did it.

I can't believe I have become my father :-[

If he's dead set on clip-ons, you can remove the fork ears and use a cutting wheel on an angle grinder to remove whatever height the clip-ons mount is. Better than pushing the fork tube through the triple tree and mounting them on top. Aftermarket fork ear is always an option too.

The only right way to do this is drop the forks through the triple tree, unbolt the headlight from the ears, mount some 37mm aftermarket headlight ears, slip the clipons onto the fork tube above the new headlight ears, raise the forks back into position and bolt it all up.

Tell the kid if he wants to lower the front end to do it after he's ridden for a while. Point him in our direction to sign up.

Truth be told of course if he wants 'that look' as in 'cafe racer' then your bike is not the bike he should be buying.

It's a lot of work to do for a bike you're selling.

Just sell it to him as is. Tell him it's up to him to modify it if he wants.

Take $50 off the price if you feel generous.

agreed terible idea for a non EXPERIENCED rider to go with clipons.rider would be a hazard on the road
some 3-4" rise mx bend bars would be perfect on that bike .clipons do not fit its style anyway, honda designed that bike as a flat tracker style

I used what are sometimes called "euro bars", they have around 1.5" rise on the same bike. Bar end mirror, if any at all. Looks cool and are comfy. He prob just wants to get rid of those lame factories, and thinks clip-on literally means just clip-on and go!

The other problem (after you work out how to cut down the headlight ears to fit the clip-ons) is that you have a bunch of too long cables, hoses and wiring to sort out to make it all actually work.

Not a quick job in most cases.

Low bars, fresh controls hot shoe style Lazer tail maybe

This kinda direction, the bike is sporting the right lines

thanx for all the input guys.I am thinking clipons because that bike has 2 individual bars that set into their own socket which allows them to be adjusted for width & height.a regular handelbar wont attach so I assume clipons are the only option.he wants a lower bar.any ideas would be appreciated.
thanx Mike

Are there holes in the top triple that you could bolt some regular handlebar clamps to?

Other "easiest" way would be to slide the forks up through the clamps enough to mount clip-ons on top of the top triple clamp. I know you have air assisted forks with a hose, so you would need to take the caps off to install the bars.

tell him he is a stupid fucker and just ride the thing like it is.there is nothing wrong with the stock bars
they are as good as you can get for ease of control and comfort

So the bottom of the clamp looks like this?

I guess you could find some MX risers with a long bolt to reach past the original clamp. You'd need some big washers and rubber grommets to fill the holes but it's do-able.

Still too much work IMO for a bike you're selling. Wait until someone else comes along who wants a stock one.

and what the fuck does he want the forks lowerd a little bit for ? so the bike looks as he thinks it should look according to the pictures he has seen of the bikes built by dikliks that dont even ride on polesmoker ? er i mean, pipeburn ?.on second thought dont sell him the bike and chop the stupid fuckers hands off so he can never become a rode hazard

Wait - I'll get my pitchfork.

Get a set of riser clip ons... least then you can keep em above the tank a tad. Or use rubber mount risers with bigger rubber bushers, what are the bars SE or bigger?

Put on superbike bars. Tell him you are unwilling to sell him a dangerous bike. Explain why "clip ons are bad mmm'kay" and be done with it.

If he insists then clip them on to under the lower triple!
