clipon Vs dragbars

Hello. I´m working on making a café/tracker...? of a 1973 cb450. And need help in deciding if im gonna use clipon or some kind of dragbar handlebars?? Anyone got any pictures of similar bikes with dragbars???

I had drag bars on my cb350 when I first got them and didnt like them at all, so I changed them to Clubman bars a month later.
I dont particualily like clip ons unless they are fully adjustable like the Tommaselli adjustable clipons or Telefix clipons.

Drag bars don't work well because they bring the hand position to closer to the rider resulting in an upright riding position. Clipons or clubmans allow the rider to move forward and down, mimicking a sport bike riding position.

I would def go with a nice set of adjustable clip ons...you'll be happier in the long run with the feel and the overall look. I went with clubmans (still on there) because it was an easy way out and cheaper, but I long for a nice set of clips which I'll get sometime this summer

DAmn Nate.. That sweet!!.. I love the up-sweep pipes ;D

Oh by the way, I got an extra set of 36mm Tripple adjustable Telefix bars I could sell if anyone wants them...

would they fit on my 650?

I dont think so. The Cb750 & cb550 uses 35mm forks. I would think that the cb650 would use the same...
Hunt for a set in Paris..

Oh well...

I am a fan of clip-on's mounted above the top tree (to help my achein back)..
I like the how it gives off a industrial/madmax kinda feel...

I also smoothed out both of my top triple trees to get the front-end looking as clean as possibile..

Hey Grims
nope, you can use that tank, or you can probably put a cb750 tank on it.
just pick one up in Paris this weekend. Either way, if it doesnt fit, you can chop it and make a cafe seat!!..LOL..

We could put Clip-ons on your bike easy, either above or below the tripple. Its up to you.
Im telling you though, out of experience, you most likelt wont be happy with the drag bars...
As a safe alternative, just get clubman bars in Paris and then you can change them to Clip-ons later...

was thinkin the same put on tha clubs n get a pair of clipon's l8r when i got a bit more to spend on bars.
ya i wasnt to sure if i would like the drag bars once on the bike, prolly wont

clubs it is

Clubmans give you a lot more mounting options than drag or clip bars, the sweep in them places them farther away from the tank where clips might bind. And you can mount them in all kinds of ways such as the weird upside down way a bunch of guys on this site like them :)

I had mine above the tree for a while:

But eventually dropped them under:

More for the aesthetics of it rather than ergonomics, I never really felt a difference.

I mounted them loosely at first, sat on the bike and pushed them into the most natural feeling position, then tightened them down. One complaint I have about them is that the rubber mounts along with the length of the bars add slack to the system and as a result you loose a lot of feel for the bike (I dislike foam grips for the same reason) Because of this all my other bikes, and possibly this one will have clips. Plus I like the way clips look and how they simplify the construction of the frontend.

I agree with you on that Mysta... but if they are fullly adjustable clip-ons like by tomaselli or telefix, you get more mounting postions than clubmans, no matter where you mount them! ;D

That looks awesome by the way!!.. LOL...

Thanks for the compliments Loco, I'm really struggling with the lines of the bike and positive and negative comments are helpful. I'm dropping the headlight and guages about an inch and a half this coming weekend and I was planning on grabbing some clip ons too but now I can't find any reasonably priced 35mm.....anybody got any? Anyone? Bueler?

Oh yeah, anybody looking for bars, I have a set of the mikesxs clubmans that were on my bike for a second....they didn't have enough drop for me so I went with a diff set of clubmans. The mikes bars are clubman style but keep the bars at a drag bar height, but with more pullback...hell, go to mikesxs and look at them, if anyone wants them $15+shipping

great bike mysta , can't get enough of it, gives me hope about my 360 , i've just added clubmans , then i was able to lower the front about 1.5 inches, before it touches the bars , i have a lot to go before i can match your bike ,still very stock, i don't think i'll mount my bars under like you just yet, i'm looking to lower my headlight, are you stlll selling your brackets?

yeah dude,
i bougth a seat too , still have to mount it , i know you said to make one but , i just don't have the time or skills, are you going tonite?, i want to come by,

hey.. I might be there tonight but later on...
Im gonna wrench and fire up the cb750f tonight!!..
