clubman VS clip-ons

So, i'd like some input from DTT members on this one. I JUST got my hands on a set of 35mm clip-ons for my cb450, BUT i've got VERY little knowledge of installation of these guys. i absolutely LOVE the look of clip-ons on a Cafe racer, BUT i've JUST bout a set of Clubman bars as well. the clubman bars(from my perspective of research) seem to be a little more straight forward when it comes down to installation. maybe i'm just not clear on clip-on installation, but i'm leaning more towards they clubmans as of right now due to my lack of experience with removing the forks. which ever one i use, i'll be giving the other bars to my brother in law. i need some advice on the pros and cons of each.

Do you have rear-sets? If no, then neither.

If you do have rear sets, then clip ons any day. Far more adjustable.

And you said something about removing the forks? There's no need to remove them to install clip ons, just take the top clamp off.

100% with Rich. I've had clubmans on my KZ1000 and CB900 hated them. I run clipons only now. And I just take the top clamp off very simple job.

It all depends in our pocketbook all us broke asses rock clubman but secretly want clip ons while we tout their insuperiority

I think apart from the adjustable benefits of clip ons, it depends if you are going for aesthetics, I prefer the look of clubmans on a a cafe, just looks a bit more traditional, not to say clip-ons aren't either, you cant still move them up and down in the clamp, Lossa Engineering make some nice ones too, clubmans I mean :)

I used clubmans on my old KZ650 with the stock pegs and loved it. The most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. I'm going to be using clip-ons on my CB but see nothing wrong with clubmans, especially the price compared to clip-ons, great alternative.

I think it will come down to personal preference and comfort. Bike, look you want, your riding style, and footpeg position all will play a part in which choice will be better for you. You can mount or mock up both and see which has the style you want, as well as the fit you want.

That was the best non-answer / opinion I could give :D :D :D :D

thanks for everyone's input!!! i JUST called to cancel my clubman bar-order. i've got the clip-ons in hand and i've just purchased a set of new headlight ears. ready to set it all up, maybe!

i know that cafe's are the cool thing and everyone wants clip ons and clubmans. but they are so freaking uncomfortable. for real any one that says they like them are either lying or crazy. i have clipons on both my bikes and i will be changing one out to more of a drag bar or tiny rise, just because i can't ride of rmore than 20-30 min without f*cking up my back

Sounds like you've got a back problem or you're trying to ride your bike across the country. I've got both clubmans and clip ons on some of my bikes (and drag bars on one), and they're killer for zipping around. I'm not lying, but you're welcome to question my sanity I suppose.

All depends on personal preference and budget. You can get clubmans and cheap clipons for a reasonable price. I personally like the Woodcraft Clip Ons becuase you can install them without removing the triple at all but they are a bit pricey.

As for comfort thats another story. I personally like the look of clipons and clubmans on a cafe but they do kill my back and wrist. My CB350 will have clipons. All my other bikes (Streetfighters) I run Dirt Bars and would never go back to clipons unless running on the track.

When I tried out my latest build, a Gs750, it still had the stock bars. I fucking HATED IT!! The moment I got a set of clubmans on her, all was well again. Clubmans and clip ons for me, thank you. Now, if I can just finalize these rearsets....

thanks for all the replies guys/gals!!! i'll post up pics of the clip-ons installed soon! i love the feel of clip ons as well! now...for the rear sets... :-\ and more $$$

I like the clubmans,of course I make my clubmans from old stock honda handle bars, here's a set I made for my cb750,along with thes vintage Italian "titty grips" that I picked up at barbers this year, the ampule of glue was dried up,but for 5$ in the pack still! Can't beat it,I'm so excited about this build! Finally got THE BIKEi wanted,so it's gonna be awsome crazy fun!!

If I ever score a top tree clamp that's either been milled off,or at least an aftermarket one without the built in riser,I'll do clip ons though, then I'll know fer shure, which I like best, but aesthetically ,I dig the bars wrapping around the gauges,in short,I like clubmans,I think they are old school,& I dig um!

Two suggestions that may help you:
Relax... don't try and strong-arm them while riding, if you triceps, biceps or shoulds are tensed, it carries right to your back. A properly set up bike will want to track straight yet turn with a little input. If you can take one hand off the controls without changing much you're close.
Ride faster: The air pushing against your chest takes the weight off your wrist and I can ride for hours. Sitting at this computer hurts my 50 Y.O. back more.
