Clutch / neutral issue

cargod78

what is that for?
Sorry if this has been covered but I am on my iPhone and in a pickle... I have a 1976 cb550k first issue is, I can't find neutral.. It slips right past it, like there is no detent for it. Is there an adjustment for this? It makes red lights a real pain. Second is, when I pull the clutch lever and put it in first I can feel if drag a little but the cable is adjusted all the way.

I'm not familiar with your bike specifically, but there's usually an adjustment at the other end of the cable, at the clutch itself. Generally you adjust the clutch there first, and "fine tune" it with the adjuster at the lever.
Also, if your clutch is dragging, that will make neutral hard to find because the transmission internals are still moving. Basically the bike thinks you're moving, and "skips" past neutral.
If you turn the engine off, does it go into neutral easier?

ok, so i went out and adjusted my clutch six ways from sunday.. no matter how far i adjust it, it still feels like it draggs when i squeeze the handle.. the 76 cb550 has a wet clutch correct? could it be the wrong oil in it?

Yes, wet clutch. The wrong oil would more likely make it slip rather than grab.
Could be that your cable is just worn out/stretched.

Might have to wait for somebody with more knowledge of the 550 to chime in.
