CLUTCH ? Problem honda cb360

Adamantium

Been Around the Block
Hey guys, looking for a pro opinion.
Just replaced an engine on my 75 360, runs good, before I ran out of gas. Anyways, when I roll back while in neutral, I hear a kinda pop, and the clutch lever goes limp, then when I start to roll forwards again it pops and and tightens back up.
I ran out of time on it today, its up at a friends garage. Just wondering if anyone has any advice for me to check out or whatnot.
Thanks

I know its a common prob on here, I saw some of the posts, just didnt seem to be my exact problem.
Ill check adjustment tomorrow, unless someone tells me otherwise.

I've worked on them for about 30 yrs and never seen this 'problem'.
I'm guessiing its so severely out of adjustment the operating lever under left cover catching on drive sprocket bolt head.

i say go through the system, throw in a new cable for good measure, adjust per clymer spec, and see if the problem still exists. if it does, then its probably something internal.

Cable was new as of this summer. I went through and adjusted the cable as the book says. Then had my more mechanically inclined buddy re-adjust and I am still getting the same result, although the tension seems better. We opened up the cover and took out the rod and cleaned it up, honed it down and lubed it up and put it back in, and still getting the same result.
It is weird. Everything seems good, I can actually drive the thing, but for some reason, if i roll the bike back with the clutch lever held in it will pop. But I can roll it forward and it will pop back into place. I can roll it too and fro and it seems to pop and de pop in the same places each time.
Im not exactly too sure how the mechanism works, but I will look over the blown apart view and try to thing of something. I really dont want to take the engine back out to take the clutch/transmission apart.
Eventually I will be looking to sell the bike, my Triumph is taking up all my riding time.

Its a really simple ball and ramp systen similar to Triumph 'slick shift' from 1950~60's
You have 3 ball bearings in a flat cage, semi fixed piece in outer cover with adjuster scew and moving piece where cable attaches. unscrewing adjuster moves the whole mechanism closer to pushrod. slacken cable at both ends and adjust screw until ball bearing in lift mechanism contacts push rod. Then adjust cable.

Well, its done. The main problem with the clutch was that before you reattach the side cover, that houses the clutch assembly, you have to be sure that the adjustment lever arm starts in a default position less then 90 degrees. Basically you have to loosen the lock nut until the top spring releases/lowers the arm far enough so that the arm starts below the horizontal 90 degree line, and when you pull the clutch lever on the handlebar the clutch arm rotates up past the horizontal line and through past it for a smooth operating arc. I would assume that the motion limits the movement of the assembly and push rod so nothing pops out of place. Hope that makes sense.
After that was all done, I just adjusted the clutch as explained in the manual and away I went.
Thanks for all your help and advice.
