hey.. thats a very good question... I just went throught that when I pulled my clutch out...
this might help: Scroll down to the last comment on this page:

What I did was:
1. Put the bike on the side stand
2. Put the bike in 5th gear
3. moved the bike forward till the gears locked up the bike
4. put the socket on the clutch nut
5. stepped on the rear brake to lock up the rear wheel
6. As I stepped on the brake with my left foot, I turned the clutch nut loose with the socket using my right hand.

Mind you, there is a clutch remove tool that looks ljust like a steel plate with a handle on it that will stop the basket from spinning as you turn the nut...
or you can just weld a rod to an old steel clutch plate...

good luck...

ok well the motor is out of the bike so i think my approach will have to be a little different...but do i def need to be in gear? my problem is that the clutch basket turns as i try to remove that locknut..from what your saying it sounds like i would need a clutch remove tool...where would i find it

Ahh.. I see.. yeah thats a different situation...
This is the tool that you need: (however this is for an xs650)

this keeps the basket from spinning as you loosen the nut...

Basically, you could make one... just an old plate welded to a bar...

Also, I know that some others stick a rag in between the gears to lock the motor up so the basket doesnt spin when turning the nut.. although, Ive never had any luck with that...
Ive also heard that sticking pennies in between the gears would also lock it up enought to be able to remove the nut...

I dont know about the cb750, but is the nut different?
I found this on ebay:

but it just looks like a specialized socket.. I think youd still have the basket spinning problem...

Use a scrap piece of aluminum plate to jam the gears. It's softer than the steel so there won't be any damage.
