Cm400t rejet help

Hey guys, new here. I recently bought a cm400t for very cheap, and I'm doing a cafe racer build. Changing seat, handlebars, exhaust and weight here and there, pegs etc.

So my question: I removed my big ugly black air box and plan on putting cones/pods on. I see that many people have done this but all say you must rejet, but no one seems to have a solid answer as to what the measurements should be, so does anyone know what jets I would have to buy to run the stock carbs and just throw to cone filters on. I'm trying to go pretty cheap, so I'm hoping just a rejet and cones will be all I'll need. Has anyone done this and know the best size for the jets? Or is there a certain pair of cones that are sold that would restrict the airflow to the point where wouldn't have to rejet. Any help is appreciated!

Great first post! Start the motor and let me know if the bike revs above 6k wihtout the air box? If you can live with that go up a couple sizes on the jets and you are done! If you want it to run like factory, put the air box back on or get new carbs. There are a handful that know how to change the carbs internals by they tend to keep their mouths zipped on the subject.

Yeah seeing as I'm only 17 and working a part time job + high school, the $400 carbs I've been pricing isn't exactly an option, I probably will wind up going up a few sizes and just saying yay were done, I know I can get a jet set with 85/130 so I'm tempted to try that. This build is my first ever motorcycle and is a budget cafe racer build, in theory, so I'm not looking to drop huge amounts of money.

You haven't really posted this in the right subforum, but here's a guide anyway: http://www.dansmc.com/carbs2.htm

I finally got my carbs straightened out(mostly), but only by running genuine K&N filters. You need the 54mm version, I used part number RC-2330. I think I wound up with 125 and 78 jets if I remember right, but I could probably stand to go to an 80, as I have just a hint of off-idle hesitation. I understand the frustration in wanting some firm numbers. There's also this discussion: http://www.hondatwins.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=24687 over on honda twins about using a pipe to make a sort of velocity stack to help. Mine's working ok without it, but there's a lot of varied results out there, for sure.
