Seeing the post in the Kwacker thread has prompted me to post the above.

I too have problems getting parts machined, turned and etc.

The UK's a small place [relatively ] - maybe some of our more skilled members would care to offer up their services - for a fee of course.

At least we'd have the services of an enthusiast, rather than someone who just wants to make a bob or two.

I cant help with anything myself but I know a guy near me that's been into classic bikes and racing for years also does Vapour blasting, Carb cleaning, Sand and Bead blasting is a top bloke and does grade A work, can send stuff through the post he will do what you want and post it back.

Hi guys.
Tim and I would be willing to help out if needed. We have good people on tap locally. A superb and very experienced engineer, and also, a local firm of precision waterjet cutters. We get all of our metal components cut by them, such as these operating levers for our rearsets, and the newly developed Suzuki Gt500 top yoke.

That's seriously nice work - ballpark figure for the top yoke ?

my brother is ace at paint, had a couple of bikes he's painted for people in streetfighter mag etc. 6 miles away from alton towers in midlands. pm me for contact details.

Hi Beach, thanks for the kind words.......but you know it won't be cheap, ali is dear, as is the cutting and engineering. We are hoping to retail for £125 when ready. We will use the yoke, as is, on our bikes, with a couple of blind 8mm holes on the underside for the small individual instruments we favour, but we need to figure out how best to cater for those wanting to retain the OEM dials, or indeed use clubmans bars not clip-ons.

Hi Titan - not expensive at all for quality work. What's more to the point, the work is being done by people who know the subject and CARE. Power to you.

I will be needing parts for the various upcoming projects - I'll pm you when the time comes.

Not 2 miles from where I am is an aluminium [ actually non-ferrous ] recyling plant. They don't mind you rummaging around in the incoming stock, and they actually stack the usuable stuff tarher than just melt it down.

A few years back I needed a 9" front dampener, come pulley, come Hall trigger mount for my 502ci Ford Dragster engine. Piece of suitable billet from said yard - £10 ! That was 4" thick as well ! Imagine prices have gone up a tad now. Mind you they only charged scrap value by the Kg. irrespective of whether it was bar, sheet, tube, whatever.

Beach, that source for scrap ali is priceless. You should grab everything you can out of there. A few years back I wanted a piece for the yoke of one of my 500's, and believe it or not, I was quoted over £100. Fortunately I managed to scrounge a lump from a machine that was surplus at a nearby factory.....

Titan,
haven't been down there for a few years - I'll call in next week and see if it's still the same M.O.

Thanx anyway.

As you may know, "we" [ Realm Engineering ] make tubular steel chassis' for the Replicas - but I cannot take AC's guys away from the day job on what is MY project.
Of course they could easilly do the job [ see the Scorpio ], but their time is valuable making the day money.

I found a bloke in the South making an almost identical frame, but with straight rear members for £395. Very reasonable, but when I sent him the above pic, the price came back as £575 !

I'm electrical engineer by trade and also do a lot of electronics and control systems so can help out anybody with electrical issues

Phil - you are Heaven sent.!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Electrics is one part of our hobby that gives me grief. I CAN do simple re-wiring and so on, but I'm afraid I paid little attention to my Electrical Engineering tutor at Uni, one reason why I went on to Mechanical Engineering degrees !

There are some simple basics which are beyond my understanding - like why have a GBFO output coil and then put a resistor lead / cap in the system ?

When it comes to my Boardtracker Cafe-Creme, I will use as much of theoriginal wiring loom as possible, but I will be into the great unknown with most of it. You may get a call !!!!!!!! ;)

Great idea for a thread Beechcomber.

Count me in as another member of the sparks skills group, I usually build my own looms for project bikes.

I push a desk around an office doing geeky stuff these days, but cut my teeth building and maintaining Formula V (as in VW, not 5) cars and then onto be a Saab tech, I then went on to fixing Electron Microscopes and finally onto IT - phew, sounds like a lot, but it's been a long time...

Your name seems familiar, BMW Airhead fan by any chance??

Hey Twin Plug,

excuse delay in responding - just got back from my chill break in Saxony !

Yes - that would be me - Airheads and Kays. Various BMW forums / clubs - ditched the "official" one as they're too far up their own asses.

Still collecting parts for my Max Deubel Sitter homage and actively trying to finish my Kay 100 / 1100 hybrid Fighter. That's a great opportunity for us less skilled leckie guys, thanx.

I'm still struggling for some small turning jobs. Happy to pay, just finding someone interested enough to do the jobs - or they want to make you 10 thousand off !

Anyway - welcome to our growing band.

Lucky for some hey, I could use a Holiday!

Which one is the 'official' one? I'm on BMBikes.

Sounds like you've got your hands full, which is always good - I found myself in a similar position wanting spacers etc made up, in the end I bought a mini lathe and do my own stuff - check out Amadeal http://www.amadeal.co.uk/acatalog/Mini-Lathe.html

They are the same lathe as the Sealey/Clarke offerings, but almost half the price, there are lots of mods you can do to them to improve them on the web.

always fancied a lathe myself, next in line for purchases though is a nice little soda blasting unit 8) but lathe will be after that I think.

Hi surp - you found me waffling in a BMW thread, as predicted :)

I've got a shot/bead blaster and it's a superb bit of kit once I'd found a way to generate enough air flow, I ended up building a 28CFM compressor powered by a petrol engine as I couldn't get the required 5.5hp from mains electricity - I should look into using Soda as media
