Collective Skills - UK

Lucky for some hey, I could use a Holiday!

Which one is the 'official' one? I'm on BMBikes.

Sounds like you've got your hands full, which is always good - I found myself in a similar position wanting spacers etc made up, in the end I bought a mini lathe and do my own stuff - check out Amadeal http://www.amadeal.co.uk/acatalog/Mini-Lathe.html

They are the same lathe as the Sealey/Clarke offerings, but almost half the price, there are lots of mods you can do to them to improve them on the web.

Ah if ONLY I had the SKILLS I would look into a lathe. Woodwork, Latin and Greek were the staple diets at my school ............ metalworking was for "oiks" [ their definition ! ].

I have often stood in awe and watched skilled turners at work and marvelled at what they produce as a matter of course.

Now then - a blaster cabinet, yep that WOULD be top of my wish list.

Hi surp - you found me waffling in a BMW thread, as predicted :)

I've got a shot/bead blaster and it's a superb bit of kit once I'd found a way to generate enough air flow, I ended up building a 28CFM compressor powered by a petrol engine as I couldn't get the required 5.5hp from mains electricity - I should look into using Soda as media
yeah the 5.5 is a stunbling block for me at the moment. maybe a ditch pump/generator motor might be found to be press ganged in to taking one for the team (so to speak)

I like being an oik, I studied metalwork, vehicle studies and tech drawing at school loved them. but now work in a big green shed that says jcb on the side, hence my interest in a small lathe and blast cabinet. my brains been switched off too long. I need to start a project, maybe a two stroke first to get me fired up again. 8)

Beech, have a look on youtube at some of the turning video's, you'll soon go 'aha' and get it - it would be invaluable for making spacers up etc.

Surp, I bought a Chinese knock off of a Honda GX motor, with electric start and a 12v output for battery charging, superb bit of kit for the money, the only issue I've had in a year was a leaking fuel tank outlet, 15 minutes to fix.

It'll sustain 90-95 PSI while bead blasting solidly when opened up and will power a 2" DA at just above idle for as long as you want.

For a blast cabinet I bought one of the orange one's on eBay, they are identical to the Sealey/Clark red ones in all but colour.

I would offer to do some turning myself, but I know what I'm like at getting stuff done, there's always something else I need to do and I honestly don't think I'd have the time to do it.

Thanx for that TP .................. I have found a guy next to my polisher who is willing to take on small turning jobs.

We bought a blast cabinet second hand for £120 GBP. It's bigger than average, as a frame will fit in it.
It was very tempramental at first, working well, then not...very unreliable. But a new ceramic nozzle sorted it out......bloody brilliant now.
