Hi guys,
I'm faced with a dilemma, which is a mixture of rust and failed sealer inside the original tank of my Honda GB400.
I have not yet tried to remove the sealer (I've been told any paint stripper will do the job), but for peace of mind my preferred option would be to replace the tank.
I have a fundamental understanding of mechanics, but I am not really sure where to start, I'm hoping that there are some tanks out there that will be a direct swap (i.e. require no modification).
It's a long shot, as this is a pretty rare bike, but does anyone know of any? or where to look. The bike has pretty much the exact same engine/frame as an Honda XBR 500.
I've been looking at some of the tanks on dime city (if I cant find one that's a direct swap), but none of the dimensions are really close enough. If looking for an aftermarket tank do you normally measure the length of the tunnel for fitment, I believe my frame is SOHC so I'm assuming as long as I order an SOHC compatible tank and the overall dimensions fit it should be ok?
Also, how do you normally modify your bike so an aftermarket tank fits, will you have to weld mounting points to the frame or tank, or both?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Slav
