copper or brass plating or power coating

Doing it for the first time
Newb here, I just stripped my '75 Honda CB 500t tank. I wanted to go with a copper or brass plating or power coat. Does anyone know the approx. price of each or benefits? Any help would be great. On a side note, I was thinking about getting some personal emblems, anyone know of a place?

Thanks

im not sure what u filled the badge mounts with but most likely plating or powder coating will not stick to any filler like fiberglass or bondo.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't filled them with anything. That's part of the reason I wondered about custom emblems. I have the originals, but not exactly in great shape.

Neither copper or brass are good plating options for a fuel tank. First you would need to have the tank stripped to bare metal, all imperfections worked out without any type of filler as stated in a previous post. I've been told by every plating company I've talked to (20+) that there is really no way to block the openings and keep the plating out of the interior. Copper is not appropriate for fuel. I'd be intrested if you find someone that says they can do it. I'm planning on nickle plating some jugs and am told that I'll have to have the cylinders machined afterwards.

As far as powdercoating, I've seen quite a few really good ones, but I wouldn't be surprised if you struggle to find a coater that is willing to put a container that has held fuel inside an oven to bake the coating :/ just my opinion and what I've been told. Definitely subscribed and will be watching.

I suppose you could coat the tank with something like por-15 after plating it in copper. Also, small dimples or scratches will be removed with layers of copper by the plater.

what about copper/brass plating smaller parts? Anyone know a source for this service on the east coast preferably?

I've got a buddy that is nickel plating parts for a chopper he is building and it all looks really badass.. I'd say go for it if you can!

powder coat should hold to metal filled epoxy such as devcon and possibly bondo metal fill filler. i know that it will definitely hold to "lab metal"
