Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER! (DONE..for now. VIDEO!)

That looks nice. What carbs did you end up using and what are your intentions for that oil cooler?

The carbs are PE 24's, Ill just have to see how they perform in this 198cc setup.

I fabbed up a mounting bracket to run the cooler in-front of the downtube between the fairings in that vertical positioning.

I had drilled and tapped some holes for the oil cooler into the case cover and added a plug between them to divert the oil flow. Its not the greatest design, and i feel its rather fragile. If it breaks i'm going to have to find someone to weld in some bungs to accomplish the same thing. Here was the cad sketch I used to determine the spacing and locations. I had measured up the distances so i could make some estimations on getting enough thread engagement.

My only concern is drain back when the engine sits, as that little pump doesn't move much oil quickly and would delay filling the cooler.

I may add a hardilne 'trap' instead of a flowback valve since the pump doesn't have much pressure.

Here are some other pics from the assembly.

Pistons set to near 0 deck @ .042" squish via the copper gaskets unlimited combo. And the cam dialed in to the x9 spec of 31' btdc.

Got the engine in the chassis. Had some initial oil leaks that i had to take care of.
I ended up sealing the fittings with some three bond to prevent them from seeping.

I also added a relay into the ignition after i had discovered I was getting some pretty weak spark. Now that it's powered from its own circuit the spark is much brighter.

Cant wait to get some seat time to dial everything in.

That is a beautiful build you have there. How did you redo the intake? I see it's angle out more than stock. Did you get custom ones made or something?

Yeah they are a molded piece I got as a concelation prize for some bad customer service. But they aren't on the bike as they don't work with the current exhaust. I'll probably use them with my two into one exhaust.

One hell of a clean, organized, kick ass build bro.. I love it. Where are you planning on racing it ? And where did you get those air filter pods.. they look like they would fit on my CB200 without having to do any heavy/time consuming intake or frame modifications.
..love the oil cooler fabrication also.
Cheers

Ill probably take to it Beaver run near Pittsburgh for a track day or two.

Those filters wont fit your stock 200 carb. They are the correct diameter for the pe24's. But you could look through k&n's catalog to see if there any that fit your measurements.

Nice dude.. you just going to an open track day at Beaver? Im a Pennsylvania guy too.. been looking for a place that does vintage 200cc racing

Sweet ride, totally missed it but read thru it all. Props man!
What is the hose going to the oil-check-plug on the right side cover? breather tube?

i am in the market for new carbs aswell, on a cb200. I'm curious how the 24's are going to work on 198cc.

cheers!

Its an additional crankcase vent. Right now it connects to the main vent tube and spits out the back.

Hit me up if you head to the track. I only live 15min away amd my buddy is a trainer there. Would love to see this scoot in person.

So here is this thing. Finally running with the rebuilt engine. I need to dial everything in, and reseat the bead on the rim. It not quite centered on the rear, and is breaking up a bit in certain places.

Also worth noting that the 200 pump on the 175 case makes about 9lbs of oil pressure at higher revs, and about 2lbs at idle.

Yeah, I'm sure that will be parallel with some carb configuration.
I have a few more things on the list. You can see that the exhaust needs a coating. I'm also going to swap the alternator for one off of a 200, which is in better condition. I'll probably check the valve lash, and check the torque on the head studs, after its been heat cycled a few times.
