correct rim width

Hi all, could someone point me in the right direction as to what rim width to use with a 130 wide avon any input appreciated :)

Go to Avon's site - they have charts for their tyres.

130/90: probably 2.5
130/70: probably 3.5

According to AVON, AM26 Roadrider 130/70-18 fits a 3.5" rim but will work on 3.00 - 4.00

130/80 - 18 fits 2.75 (2.50-3.50) I didn't see a 130/90 in 18"

This sort of data is available on most tire manufacturers web sites as Big Rich mentioned already. You may have to dig, but it's usually there - somewhere.

I didn't even think to go to avon's website
Think I'm running a 1.85(?) right now and a 110 width tire-in other words to narrow for the lean angles I want to achiveve.
Thank you!

Here's the chart...:

I don't follow. Wide tires aren't necessary for greater lean angles. We get huge lean angles on 80/90 and 90/90 tires on 1.6 and 1.85 rims. The reason for fat tires, other than fashion, is to stop them shredding with mega HP. 40 - 50 hp works nicely with a 100 width tire.

Wide tires tend to make high lean angles harder.....They slow handling down.....

I suppose that is true. My mistake for not mentioning that I am racing this bike and the greater contact area of the 130 will get me more power to the ground. I do know of many fellow racers running a 130 that are acheiving greater lean angles than me with a 110

What is limiting your lean angles. In my case it's always the rider but in yours it could be that their bikes are sitting higher which allows more clearance to lean or a lower CofG which requires more lean angle. I could be wrong but I doubt that the tire width is the limiting factor. What tires are you running at the moment? AVON race tires or street tires?

What kinda bike are you racing? Is it the KZ400 in your signature?
A 110 is all you should need, unless of course you are putting TONS of HP to the ground.
A lot of fellas that run CB350's, highly tuned, run 110 rears.
