Crazy seat idea (Got Wood?)

Okay here is the idea. I have been trolling around here going on a year and have been thinking about a new take on the cafe seat and tank.

Has anyone ever seen a seat and tail done out of wood. I was thinking of using mahogany like the classic old wooden speedboats. After the tail is shaped and sanded leave the sides natural and do a thick dark navy strip to lead into a navy tank. I know its not normal to see anything wooden on these bikes but it will be different. Bike is a mid 70's Honda CB450 btw.

Any thoughts or am i crazy to mix wood and metal in such a way?

cheers*

+1 to Curb's seat. There's another member (can't remember the name) that talked about a wooden seat. He did comment on Curbcast's build recently though.

Try looking into boat building sites and suppliers like: http://www.noahsmarine.com/

They'll get you the stripping, resins and wax stuff you'll need to form things like a wood "case" for your tank or making a read cowl.

If you want to make it out of solid wood, you're probably better off looking into planes, saws and other carving goodies you can get at http://www.leevalley.com/Default.aspx

Either way, hope you have some cash set aside for this project. I think it's an awesome idea, but you're going to pay out of pocket and you might have a couple attempts before you make something you're happy with.

Troy did the cut up skateboard seat..looked pretty amazing..

No idea what page its on of his 86 page thread tho lol

have you seen the cycle world web surfer bike?

do it. Its cool. Mine was inspired by a moped I saw with a skate deck for a seat. I just took that idea & sexed it up a lil bit. Gotta do it just that little bit better

i saw a green kawi with a big, shiny wodden cafe seat..it was wicked. I have thought about doin it ever since. I wish I had a pic to show of it

I'm new to the site but excited to see people bouncing ideas around wood seats. I build a wood seat for my xs750, hear it is. The wood is solid walnut harvested from my farm in Indiana.

it would be cool to do wood paneling in a metal seat and tank, like the "woody", anything other than that, and... meh...

very unique bike he's brewing up there. I wonder what he's going to do as far as finish on the seat. He could almost go with just a clear polyurethane to match the gloss of the forks and give it a richer tone.

Yeah, I've seen several seats done in all wood, including one last season on Cafe Racer, by J&B Moto.

Max Hazan made this beautiful Royal Enfield Bullet 500 with a wooden tail section.

The wood seat is beautiful. However, I wouldn't want to ride that bike very long....Despite my butt being well cushioned....

For an art bike, wood looks cool. For a daily rider I would never even consider it. I've ridden bikes with little padding and been sorry after only short rides.
