Been Around the Block
Hey guys,
I decided to make my own seat so it fit the frame, and rear hoop how I wanted. I have done some fiberglassing in the past, but nothing to this scale. It was a pretty easy process. The toughest part was getting the seat shaped to the contour I felt fit the lines of the bike. After it was shaped, I taped some rubber tubing around the seat pan so the upholstery has a "shelf" to sit in. After that, it was just a matter of applying some carnuba cleaner wax as a release agent, and lay down the resin and fiberglass mat. It has been reinforced with more mat and resin. For a mount, I drilled/tapped a piece of solid round stock, and epoxied it to the underside. It still needs bodywork, but the last picture shows it sanded with 80 grit. I still have the mold, and could make some more for any members interested.

Cool cool. I always do a little bit of extra work and ust make a mold fro mthe original plug. this way I can make multiple seats if needed and its relatively quick once you have a mold.

How do I go about making a mold from the original foam plug?

It requires a little more materials. I usually make the foam plug as smooth as possible with bondo. Make sure you seal the foam with something first as bondo reacts to the foam haha.

Once the bondo is sanded perfectly smooth, you have a good plug for a mold. Same process, you apply wax or a parting agent and then lay down the fiberglass. Some people apply a gelcoat to the plug first and then lay down the fiberglass for the mold. This creates a really nice surface on the inside of the mold. I'm probably going to laydown a gelcoat for the CB350 mold.

Here is a mold of a Streetfighter headlight I made.

Here is a CB350 I'm building. Just have to sand the bondo down and then ready to lay up the mold
