i have a 1985 honda shadow vt500c and i recently bought a mikuni tm 36 for it. my question is how do i mount it correctly so it doesnt fall off. the bike was stock with dual keihin carbs under the tank. i can make a snorkel that will fit between the heads and convert it from a 2 to 1 carb setup so thats not a problem. the concern is that where the original carbs were they were just mounted into rubber boots that clamped onto the engine heads, there aren't any screw holes to tighten it down. if i make the intake to fit and have the carburetor coming out the side of the bike will i have to make something to attach to the carburetor to give it support? and if thats the case can i weld something directly onto the engine casing, or drill a hole into one of the fins to mount a bracket? the top picture is how it looks on my bike and the bottom picture is how i would like it be a direct bolt on flange?
You can build a bracket off of the boot mounts that attach the carb boots to the motor remember to rubber mount them (to cut down on vibration to the carb). I am looking at doing the same swap on a Yamaha 500 twin I have. I will be building a bracket off of the original mounts for the twin carbs. The carb will be mounted to the new manifold with a rubber connector. I am going this way vrs mounting to the carb boot bolts. Its just a cleaner look IMO. What are you using to build the manifold?
I'm using some stainless steel pipe to weld and make the intake to the heads and I'm going to weld a flange on the carb side to bolt it on I'm just stumped when it comes to giving support to the carb the bike doesn't gave screw holes on the engine because its not stock with a single carb is it possible to weld a bracket to one of the fins or drill a hole in a fin to fit a bolt
