Custom Oil tanks

Since there isn't a thread dedicated custom oil tank on this forum. And for us guys who are lucky enough to have a dry pump system and have a nasty looking oil tank, might want some options to replace it.

I know my Cb750 has an oblong cone looking than isn't attractive, and I'm sure there is others who are dealing with the same thing.

I am looking for some inspiration for my build, and maybe inspire some other builds.

I am hoping that this thread catch on and will contain some sweet custom tanks.

thanks,
Hohokam :D

We use these for 2 stroke......but they would look ok on anything !

Hohokam,

Start with the stock tank and work out its capacity. Your new one has to be pretty close to that.

Them make up a cardboard mock up and calculate the capacity of that and adjust teh design as required.

Next check the internal oil pipes and breather set up and have a set of those made up of find a way to cut them out and weld them into your new tank if it's steel. Or get some copies machined/fabricated in Al.

The clever part with a SOHC 750 is packaging - ie making it all fit. It's not rocket science but it's not easy either.

I have had oil tanks made for Triumph race bikes but they are a simple shape.

I'd love to see what you come up with.

My question is, what is the difference in plumbing between a tank built for a Triumph and one built for a Honda? Is there really much more to a tank than, essentially, a container with a line in and a line out?

Thanks for the advice buddy,
That is what I did, made the shape I wanted and adjusted the measures to a capicity closest to the stock one. which is 2 liters for you cb750 guys looking to make an oil tank.

I calucated my measurements to be 2.0171L, near perfect!

Took my model and measurements to the machine shop and they are going to put it together.

Once it gets done, I'll post pics.

Hi cowboy.......the tanks are ready made, and have approximately a 2ltr capacity. They work really well on our 2 strokes, and it's easy enough to weld on the right connection for the oil feed.

Plumbing doesn't seem that complicated by the looks of the diagram given in the manual. First line is return line which goes about 3/4 up in the tank. Then the second is line is the giving line( can't think of the proper term right now) which goes into the tank about 1/4 of it. Then the breather or over flow, Idk what it is, goes near to the top of the tank. The internals don't look that complicated. And should fit in the tank I designed.

I found a nice diagram of the cb750 oil tank, which I'll post below.

I came up with another solution: I took out the battery box and moved the electricals. Then I loosened up the stock oil tank and turned it sideways, where the airbox used to be. I'll weld in a couple mounting brackets, but it tucks it into the frame and pretty much gives me the look I was shooting for without much hassle at all. Check it out:

Are you willing to share where you get it from?
