Anyone care to share thier ideas on how they did some custom switches for power, lights, start buttons ect. Id love to see pics if you have any. Im redoing the wiring on my GS 450 and need ideas other than using factory stuff.

Toggle on the left for turns. Momentary button on the right to a latching relay for hi/low headlight.

Black momentary to the right of the switch is the start, also to a relay first.

Yeah Son!

Thanks bro. Here is a thread on how it's wired. http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=66518

Yeah Son!

Just the thread I was looking for! I just made this:

I have no idea how to wire it...

I also need to tackle a headlight switch but I want to use a toggle on the headlight bucket to switch between on-off-hi beam (if that's possible).

Using that for turns I imagine? Center post is the power in from your flasher relay. And the either side of that is the right and left turns. Just remember when the switch is in the left position the contact on the right (opposite) side is the one that goes hot. The headlight switch would be the same way. Center is power in, hi and lo on either side.

Yeah Son!

What do you do about the choke with these old bikes when you replace the default switches with custom? I was looking to replace all my switches on my bike and this was my biggest concern... (Pretty new to bikes so sorry maybe this is model specific and a basic question)

That's what most of my research has suggested but my switch has 6 pins instead of 3. I'm guessing the extra sets are grounds? If I light my bike on fire, I'll know I was wrong...

They wouldn't be grounds, if there are only three positions on the switch that they are just doubles I'd say. You could try to google the model number of your switch and see if there is a wiring diagram.

Yeah Son!

Its prob just a double pole switch which means its like having two switches with one lever bothe middle post would be power in, two ups and two downs or left and rights...

Momentary start. 3rd key position activates the headlight. Second switch is for the fans. Then modern Jap sport bike side controls and kill switch.
