cutting a tank

I plan on cutting my tank to use the important parts for the attachments for a fiberglass tank I am going to make. I have never cut a tank before and I know I can do it. My question comes in because there is a trace of gas in the tank right now. I know I need to get it out but is there something I should do to clean it out to reduce or eliminate gas fumes and such from being in there? I would hate to have a little gas or fumes blow up from the sparks of cutting.

Thanks

you could fill it with water then use something like 1/2" or 3/8" drill put a few holes near the rear bottom and then let everything drain out and then all that will be left is some water

i cut my tank in half and am in the process of welding it up to be stretched 3 inches with a slightly modified back end. all i did was let is sit for a few days and then rinse it out with water. i experienced no explosions/fires. ;)
