cutting down the front fender

This is on my '81 Suzuki GS1000L chop/bob project. http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=61604.0

I want to cut down the front fender because, well it's just too damn big and ugly. For those of you who've done it; are you cutting the entire factory rolled edge off and then grinding the new edge (relatively) smooth or are you getting it re-rolled or otherwise "treated"?

Any advice/direction is greatly appreciated.

Make a stright cut about a inch or two from the edge then take the hunk you cut off and use factor edge as a pattern to trace at the lengh you want

I plan to cut my front like I bobbed my rear. Use tape to make a straight line to cut the first 2" off then tape off the part I want to remove and cut that out. Weld the end you cut off to the fender grind, fill and paint DONE fWIW the metal is THIN so I use spot welds to keep from warping it. Don't run a bead it will warp it.

Thanks for the replies. If I cut it fairly short is the rolled edge even necessary? If it is, is there a DIY hack to re-rolling it or do I need to get one of those cool sheetmetal bead rolling tools? Not that I need another excuse to buy a new tool but if it happens...then again that cash could go toward the bike build. Decisions decisions.
