Cutting suspension springs

I've seen some people talk about doing this on here before, but I was wondering if just cutting down shock springs to lower the back end of a bike is a bad thing. What sort of problems would this cause? I assume you would have to cut them from the bottom. Is that correct? Thanks.

Bad idea. You don't adjust shock length by making them sag. You would just end up bottoming out all the time. If you need to lower the rear, you need to get shorter shocks.
