CX 500 engine/drive chain opinions

What's the consensus on the early (79) CX 500 power plant? Thinking in terms of using for a sidecar outfit.
Are they torquey / reliable / easy to work on? Anything to watch out for?
And the drive train?

I have seen the CX mill with hacks before.


The 79 ignitor isn't quite as reliable as the later CDI system, but the older units can be converted to the newer system.


I think it could be a good fit, but I think the guys over at the CX forum would be an even better group to ask.
