CX500 Cafe/Bobber *Update p3*

Five Miles Out

Hellooooo. This is my CX500 build. This will be my second attempt at customising a bike, and I have very little knowledge about anything.

Painted satin black.

Painted satin black by spray cans. Not happy! It's too cold and wet here in Sydney for the paint to properly dry so they will be off for powdercoating.

Stripped Cherry Bomb Glasspack Mufflers. Will be satin black.

This can only mean one thing...Webike Japan!

They're like totes glittery...

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

sweet one dude......

being from sydney you must be a scr member yeah??
i myself am in bondi junction at the moment but i work on my bikes in miranda....and yes the cold is a biatch for painting at the moment....
although ive had some success.....
the smaller parts i chuck in the oven....
get one of those cheap heaters that doesnt have a fan.....not like an oil heater.....they use an element and have a reflective foil on the inside that radiates heat.....
also spray the floor down with water an hour before you spray...this stops dust coming off the floor when you walk around.
spray one side at a time and leave the wheels infront of the heater between coats....
it also helps if you soak the spraycans in hot water...
it also helps if you use good paint.....not the cheap shit in bunnings
whilst all this is going on im sure you can find plenty of things to do on the bike with you new goodies from webbike japan.
what are your plans for a seat?
peace
james

Yeah member of SCR but never ridden with them. Im over the north side of the bridge. Small stuff was thrown in the oven overnight, no way painting the wheels will work. The paint simply wont dry in 10 degrees with 30cm of rain falling every day...especially in an open ended garage. They are off to be powdered in Satin Black.

Small update: K&S bar end indicators.

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

I will be making the seat from fiberglass, hopefully similar to the Wrenchmonkees CX500 seat. I need to collect the K70 tyres from Lloyd Penn (can't reccomend these guys enough). Clubmans, CX500D tank and some mirrors should come this week.

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

A fellow CX builder likes to see this happen.
Are you attaching the cherry bombs right to the 'H' Pipe?

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

Love to see another CX making its way onto the, er, small screen. So are you cafe-ing or wrenchmonkey chopping? Or a little of both? Looks like you're off to a fast start with the exception of the small wheel paint glitch. I have the same Speedo as you from the looks of it. Liking the bar end signals. Keep up the good work.

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

I'm fellow CX'er as well and I'm looking forward to watching your build. How long are the bar end signals? I'm considering something like this for my RD build

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

Full on tin Someone had to bring up the pipes. I'm losing hair over them! Options;

2-2 with H-Pipe

2-2 without H-Pipe

2-1
If I keep the H-Pipe I get a new one welded, then get a joining tube between the H and the cherry bomb about 15cm. They will also have a turn out tip welded on the end.

ScrapMetal Personally I can't stand most of the cafe style seats, so I'll be going a monkees style seat with the traditional clubmans etc. No rearsets either so I guess it's a bit of both. I'll try to keep it original!

Signals are 27mm long.

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

The bad thing about the 2-1 is only 2 companies (1 is in the states) make them and they cost an arm and a leg. I'm having my 2-1 custom made for about the same price as buying the ones that everyone has.
If you're dropping the airbox to run pods, loosing the h-box will make getting your carbs tuned in a lot harder. I dropped mine and have pods and it's been hell trying to get them adjusted right. That's why I'm doing a Mikuni swap in the very near future.

Yeah that's what I've heard. I think I'll either keep the 2-2 and use some HD sportster cans or get a custom 2-1 made with an emgo muffler. Any muffler suggestions?

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

Mine used to have sportster take offs. I've seen the emgo cigar mufflers look pretty good on it. I bought a supertrapp and intend mounting underneath the engine.
I really like these on the CX...emgo shorty setup

-You running the 'H' connector or no? Tuning/jetting results?

-and I thought my seat was THIN!

-Are those SLR lenses for your Signals?!

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

This isn't my bike, just one I used for inspiration. No h-box. Yes to the lens.

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

Got the wheels back. Sand blaster tried to charge me $150 to get them blasted - and he was bloody rude. However North Shore Powdercoaters did a great job and cheap.

K70's Mounted.

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

Was waiting on clubmans from QLD. 2 weeks late they tell me they are on their way from the USA, and they should be there on Monday. Sunday they email me to say if the bars don't arrive by Monday, they won't reach me untill the end of the month as he is going away. I asked for a refund. Bloody annoying!

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

What I did for my CX500 was to build a set of two into one (equal length) headers. For the muffler I bought a damaged sportbike slipon (carbon) Then I took the muffler apart, cut it down by three inches, re-packed it and put it on. Looks good, sounds good and cheap, Viola!
Cheers, 50gary

Re: CX500 Cafe/Bobber

Please excuse the lack of updates. I have afeeling my tank is lost in transit - its been almost 40 days fromt he USA. Bummer... My 50mm 1.4 is also away so I'm feeling a little unloved.

Rebuilt the forks and powdercoated them in Satin Black.

Cut the seat pan and frame. Bought some foam for $10 and will use the old leather to upholster the new seat.

I noticed your tank is a bit beat up.. there is this one i came up on on ebay... (no i am not the seller) though you would be interested.

Cheers!

Thanks for that but I'm still waiting on a tank I ordered, and I hate the D style tanks so I bought a C-tank. I also need a tank shipped to Australia where I live.
