CX500 rearsets

Been Around the Block
I've seen some complicated rearsets for the CX500 due to the shifter coming out from the back of the engine rather than the side. I wanted to move my pegs back a bit but not that much and didn;t want lots of complicated linkages etc and wanted it to kinda look factory.

To make them I cut the stock mount off the stock mounting plate (it was under the bolt that mounts the plate to the frame). Then I welded on a new piece of plate to the original mount, welded the orginal mounting box section to that, this moved it back a few inches and then bolted in some R1 pegs ($9.99 delivered from ebay)

To finish off I bent the stock shifter toward the back of the bike so I could still reach it but I'm going to buy a cheap aftermarket CB shifter from ebay and chop it up ad move it back to do it right. I only need the splined section from it so I'll get the cheapest I can find ;)

Total cost so far, $9.99 for the two pegs, some scrap 6mm plate I had and a can of spray paint that was sitting on the shelf in the garage.

Hi Steve, Good work on the rearsets, I'm going to be working on some controls like this for my bike very soon.

You should check out the CX500 that Little Horse Custom Motorcycles built, they routed the shifter underneath the bike and it comes out right behind the starter. I'm going to attempt to do something like this for mine, and then try to figure out a way to bend/re-position the brake lever so that it doesn't look too rediculous.

Forgot to post the pics of the new shifter, easily made and no complicated linkages etc :)

Need to add a proper rubber end to it but wanted to test for a little first incase I needed to apply any more heast to bend it etc.

All good though and works real well.

Great. Simple. Clean.
A pic with a rider in position would be helpful. Brake side too.

If you want to try round2, I'd consider being a customer!

Cheers, bF
