Anyone know of a thread with a walk through of a cb/cl cylinder head? I stript her down then let it sit for a while now i am lost to re assemble ??? ... Its a 450 head if that matters... any help is appreciated :-[

Any pics for a starting point? There's not a lot to it and it would be good to see where you're currently at. Sometimes looking at the microfiche (you can find one on CMSNL) can help. It's usually pretty easy to find a PDF file of the original shop manual by Googling it, as well.

Well... make sure your crank is aligned so that the LT mark is lined up with the arrow on the stator.
There are two lines on the cam sprocket, these should now be parallel with the top of the head.
Now install the cam tensioner holder.
Next, fill up the oil baths and coat everything in oil.
Tighten up the tensioner and then check valve clearances.
Button up the head and install the spark advancer. There's a pin on the camshaft that should line up.
After that, readjust the tensioner and recheck the valve clearances to make sure everything is still in spec.
Now you can adjust the timing and point gaps and you're done.

thanks sonreir you have been a huge help, i think i'l get it close as i can then i will go check with my high school rec engines teacher with whom i've made friends with since.... seriously thank you

There is a really nice PDF with lots of pics that Bill over on hondatwins.net wrote up that goes through the cam timing process. Really helped me out when I did mine. I will try to find the link for you.

get a clymer manual, if you didn't have one before tearing apart an engine you aren't familiar with, kick yourself, then go get one :D

Got myself a manual, made sure to do that ! :) but for my abilities it seemed vague in some spots, the microfiche helped tho!! :)

Bill also has an annotated 450 manual you can buy from him on CD for something like $10 will a bunch of goodies like that. He is an invaluable resource for anyone working on 450s.
