da hell? CB350 hub wont fit CB350

chewy

El Borracho
Bought a polished rear cb350 hub off ebay. Proceeded to lace it up to a nice akront style rim.

I go to put it on the bike and bad stuff happens.
1) Feels too wide for rear swing arm. Had to force it in there pretty good.
2) New hub with original brake plate = no rotation.
3) New hub with new backing plate over laps the hub and rubs it... like a spacer is required between hub bearing and the brake plate?

Looks like the brake backing plates are different?
Hubs look identical..

Any ideas? FML...

Pretty sure that is a cb350 four rear brake hub. Also pretty sure it won't fit the cb or cl 350 twin rim hub....

Well that sucks, but makes sense.

Any idea why the new hub (looks identical to my CB/CL350 hubs) wont roll? CL brake plate with a CB hub...

It's possible that the inside bearing isn't pressed in all the way. I think it should be a little below the surrounding surface. The backing plate does look to be sticking out a mm or so compared to the hub.

You got screwed on the "polishing" and the hub it appears

Is the hub a CB350F hub too???

If you bought them as one assembly I dont see why it wouldnt be?
But I honestly done know, i was more commenting on the "polished"

It doesnt appear that the 350F brake plate fits this hub either... it rubs the hub

It won't work... You bought the wrong one. You'll need to resell it, see if the seller will accept a return, or just suck it up and throw it on the shelf... Buy another one for a twin in any condition and polish it yourself. Its not that difficult and you could probably make it look better than that one even as a novice.

bummer. I have a spare twin hub... and I will double check PN's and dimensions of it to make sure.

Do 350 F's use the same Sprockets and circlip retaing rings as a twin? because all that stuff transferred over no problem. The hub looks identical to my 350Twin hub

Smaller nuts, bolts, circlips, cotter pins, hitch pins, all those things are usually the same... I'd be surprised if the sprocket was the same tooth count but its possible. Plus someone in the past may have changed the sprocket to a different tooth count which isn't uncommon... Drum brakes, seats, forks, and some other things are different from the fours to the twins... I would make sure all the parts you buy are for your twin unless you swap the complete assembly to the four and even then still may require some modification to work.. There are small differences you're probably just not noticing. Draw up both hubs on paper after you measure them with a caliper in mm and see what the differences are. Measure the brake plates also.

I reaaaally appreciate the help guys!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/281135729176

"Polished rear hub and brake backing plate off of a 1973 CB350. Includes used brake shoes and pin, sprocket and chain ring. May fit other models, consult parts microfiche for applications. Great for vintage restorations, cafe racer or bobber projects."

and

"Notes

may fit others check... 1973 Honda CB350 Super Sport"

I thought the Super Sport was NO DIFFERENT than a regular twin, just with a disc brake in front?

Never trust an eBay seller description... Compare detailed pics to what you have. There are obvious cosmetic differences there with yours that should throw up a red flag.

A good source for information on some changes from year to year is this:http://www.motorera.com/honda/index.htm

Although it doesn't give you drum measurements it may help you with comparing models in the future.... Some parts sites are even wrong on some compatible parts. Unless you have both Honda microfiches to compare then you can't be 100% certain it is the same exact part.

Super sport is a 4cyl as far as I'm aware

They had twin super sports.. Hell I even had a cb175 ss.. The only one that has actual tank badging though I think is the cb750 models.

No, super sport is the twin models. I believe (and seems to be backed up by the ebay ad) its for a twin 350 but for the G model, not the K's.

Here is the one used on the K's: http://www.cmsnl.com/products/panelrr-brake_43100286010/#.UjH5SNJzGaU

And the one on the G: http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb350g-super-sport-350-usa_model1006/panelrr-brake_43100333000/#.UjH5fdJzGaU

However, just checking the part number for the G one (43100-333-000), and it is the same as the F models. Must have switched the rear hub in 1973 and used it forward.

Cmsnl is often wrong... I thought my kz650 was a 78 at first because I didn't have a title and didn't check the vin and cmsnl showed pumper carbs for the 78 model so thats why I was confused. After talking to the guys at the kz650 forum you recommended they informed me kaw didn't put pumper carbs on the c model until 79... Cmsnl was wrong and problem solved... Maybe Honda just lists all their cb models as super sports... If they all say super sport then how do you differentiate between a labeled supersport and a "true" supersport... The site I listed above shows twin supersports as well as Nadaguides.
