DCC Black Shock Mounting Issue

I bought some 14.5" eye-to-clevis shocks for my cb175 and have found an issue in assembly. The bushing ID on the swingarm is for an 8mm bolt for the stock shock clevis threads which were also 8mm. The new shocks are threaded for a 10mm bolt, so now my shock clevis bolt (8mm) goes right through.

My question is, is it necessary that my shock bolt actually thread through the threads built into the clevis, or can I just use a stock 8mm bolt with a nut and loctite to keep in from going anywhere? Is this entirely unsafe? In the stock configuration, the bolt goes through the clevis, swingarm bushing sleeve then through the other side of the clevis that is threaded. No nut is used in the stock configuration.

Thanks!

Also, can I drill out the sleeve in the middle of the bushing to make way for a 10mm bolt so I CAN thread it through the shock clevis?

You can't put an 8mm bolt in a 10mm hole if thats what youre asking. Too much movement and too much wear.
You should be able to find larger bushings for the shocks.

Thanks for the reply sonic. I was reading around and saw some people drilled the sleeve in the bushing out to accept the 10 mm.

I can't seem to find larger impact bushings that will work there.

How thick is the wall on the bushing? (picture)?
I wouldn't worry about drilling it if there will still be enough material when you're done.

You can drill the sleeve out, but it gets close to completely removing it. Here is a better/safer solution: http://jokermachine.com/products/cafe-racer/honda-cb160-175-200/honda-cb160-swingarm-shock-bushing.html

Doh! Look at that! Those are perfect. Thank you!

Here's a pic. There's some meat there. What do you think?
