ok heres the deal:
I found a bike that I am going to take a look at on saturday, Its a '78 CB550
its looks a little rough from the pics but it looks complete, side covers, sissy bar, windscreen, and all.
It has a clean title, but the old guy says he has never heard it run but it "cranks over" just fine.
This bike has 14,000 miles on her

would it be worth the 400 asking price if the engine is crapped out?

No.

I bought my CB450 for $375 and it ran. Just be patient... you'll find a good deal.

Well, in Washington, it might be a decent price. That's the thing I hate about Washington, everything is more money than elsewhere in the country it seems.
If the bike is in excellent shape outside of the motor, still might be worth the money. At least try and kick it over and if possible, bring a battery and do a compression test. What part of Washington do you live in, Seattle like your name suggests or somewhere near by?

yeah, im in seattle and the bike is in Tacoma...I have noticed that the bikes here are conciderably more expensive than in texas.

I dont know that the engine is crap...just wondering if it ould still be worth the money if it needed a rebuild.

Ill probably offer 300

Nice, I'm down near Tacoma myself. Good luck with checking it out, hope it's something decent. It's that time of the year and people think they can make a million off of junk, sad but true around here.

I'd love to get out, I'm not finished with my bike either, hoping to have it cracking the ton in the next month or so, hopefully sooner...

Would love to see you out there on the street as well, plus we're keeping your thread right at the top.

Actually, can you post a pic or two that you have of the bike?

bikes up here are expensive. i had to go to oregon to find mine. are you set on a cb550 or you looking for any honda 350-750? there are a bunch on craigslist...

Well I'd like a 550 or a 750.
I just like the price of this one, provided it isnt a complete turd.
I dont really want to pay top dollar for a nice seat and good paint on the tank, since thats all gonna be changed anyhow.
