Hi Guy's
This is my first bike project. As the title suggests I can't decide what looks better.
Maybe it's a no-brainer for some but for me...??
Opinions please.
I much prefer the features of Play dough. It's soft to the touch and if I feel like a change I just re-shape it.
Draw a line along the bottom of the tank to the back of the bike. That's where the bottom of you seat needs to be - regardless of the frame angles. That will create a strong visual impact. Next draw the box/bum stop/rear support and shape it in 3 dimensions. Try to mimic the straight lines and curves on the tans so that the seat and tank work together. Then make it.
If you were so inclined, you could then lower the rear bottom edge of the seat behind the shocks to make the seat front lower edge curve around the shock mount. Make that section behind the shocks tilt slightly upwards and what you have is a mores stylish interpretation of teh old look. Vance and Hines HD series bikes have some of that shape in their seats and they came close to getting it right.
Print copies of your picture above and use that as a raw canvas to draw on. Try a long megaphone muffler with some uptilt at the rear to mimic the seat/tank lines. Have fun and keep looking on the web for ideas and play with those ideas. try to work out what design elements appeal to you in different bikes and see if you can combine some of them.
Perfect.....I think I already knew the answer, and really appreciate the candor.
The tank is deep and the flat seat really doesn't match at all. I am not a designer or artist but know when I see something I like or don't like.
I'll do as Teazer suggests and draw/mock up till happy.
